Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a question or concern about your dental care? We have answered some of the most common questions regarding dentistry. Please feel free to contact our office if you cannot find the answer to your question here!
Are drugstore whitening kits just as good as professional whitening?
No! They don’t work as quickly or effectively. Consider our in-office whitening procedure! Learn about our cosmetic dentistry services here.
What should I do if one of my teeth is knocked out?
Contact our office immediately! We recommend trying to place the tooth back into the socket to protect the roots. If you aren’t able to do that, guard the tooth from harm until you are able to get to our office. Learn more about our emergency services here.
What is the best toothbrush to use?
The best toothbrush to use is one that fits your mouth. This probably means choosing a toothbrush with a small head and soft bristles so that you can reach all areas of your mouth easily. We recommend brushing with a properly sized toothbrush twice per day. Talk to Dr. Dine or one of our hygienists if you have any additional questions about your home hygiene routine.
Why do I get so many cavities?
Cavities can be caused by a variety of factors. You may be getting many cavities because either 1) your hygiene habits aren’t up to par, 2) your diet is suffering, or 3) you have an acid mouth and/or dry mouth. Regardless of the reason you are suffering, we can help you correct the problem and prevent cavities. Visit our page on dental cleanings and exams for more information.
Why do I need fluoride treatments at the dentist?
Fluoride helps to strengthen your tooth’s enamel and can help to prevent erosion, sensitivity problems, and even cavities. While fluoride is often consumed via tap water, we offer in-office fluoride treatments for additional protection against these issues.
Why do my gums bleed?
If you are experiencing bleeding gums when you brush your teeth, you are suffering from gum disease. Gum disease is an infection caused by a buildup of bacteria in the mouth. Our office offers nonsurgical gum disease treatment options that can help restore your oral health. Please contact our team right away to avoid tooth loss and other complications.
I am afraid of the dentist, what can I do?
We offer various options to help relieve your dental anxiety, including nitrous oxide, comfort amenities, and more. Learn more about these options here.
Do I have to get braces for straight teeth?
Many teens and adults want straight, aligned teeth but do not want metal braces for several years. If that’s not worth it to you, call us today for an appointment for Invisalign clear aligners. Instead of metal and wires, you get a series of clear plastic trays that fit right over your teeth. Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment, so it will straighten your teeth. But they are done much faster than braces and are practically invisible when worn.
Are dental implants right for me?
Without a dental evaluation, there is no way to know for sure, but dental implants are a viable option for most healthy patients. Even if dental implants are not an option now, we can work with your oral health and possibly make dental implants an option in the future. Call today to set up a dental implant consultation!
